New Mindfulness course at the Centre

A new Mindfulness course starting in September

Alison Cini, one of the MS specialist nurses based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, will be providing a new Mindfulness course at the Centre in September.

Whilst it is being held at the Centre, it is provided by the Royal Berkshire Hospital team and therefore it is only open to those whose treatment is provided by them.

Alison explains a bit more about the class:

‘I am here to tell you about a Mindfulness course that I aim to offer from September.

This will consist of a four-week course running on a Monday. The sessions will be one-to-one and an hour long. It will initially take place face to face at the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre, then online for the remainder of the course. If you have tried counselling and are looking for something else to help you control your stress levels, improve your mood and manage your MS symptoms, this may just be for you.

Leading Research has found that Mindfulness practiced by people with long-term conditions can help them adapt to the challenges more easily:

“Participants reported predominantly positive experiences, almost all identifying significant changes in thinking and behaviour,” Journal of Advanced Nursing.

I will aim to take you through some guided meditations, adjusting the content of sessions to your individual needs. To gain the maximum benefit from the course, you will be need to practise these at home daily in between sessions, and I will give you a recording of the session to enable you to achieve this. I will ask you to fill out a gratitude journal each day so we can discuss this at the following session.

I completed my Mindfulness training with “Mindfulness Now” last year, a British Psychological Society approved course, and I am excited to get started in practice.

I use mindfulness every day myself and feel it has helped me become more resilient to daily stresses, so can’t wait to share this with you all.’
