Quiz Night 2008
|
We ran the 10th Quiz
Night in February which was hosted by our patron Paul Daniels and
his wife, Debbie McGee. The evening, as usual, was a great success
and everyone had a great time listening to Paul’s banter with the
contestants. The teams had to answer tough questions set by Nick
Broom and his team from BDO Stoy Hayward.
Businesses from all over
Reading took part and the winners of the coveted trophy went to the
Jelf Group (Insurance) with Rockwell Collins coming in as a close
second. Boyes Turner kindly donated 12 bottles of Champagne for the
Irish Bingo which raised over £500 and lots of laughs. |

Walking for
MilesS

Sheila and Graham Butler with Yvonne Gripton after completing a Walk
in the Park.
|
On Sunday October 7th 327 people
walked a total of 2383 miles to support the Berkshire MS Therapy
Centre. Beale Park was the venue and the walkers were offered a
choice of three walks including a Half Marathon, an 8 miler taking
them into Pangbourne, along the river on a beautiful autumnal day or
a Walk in the Park which many centre members, many being wheelchair
users and some with small children, opted for.
The Half Marathon attracted many keen walkers
in the area and many competed for the prize of a meal for two at the
Ferryboat in Whitchurch. The winner completed the course in less
that 4 hours.
The most popular walk was the Pangbourne 8. 185
people took part and walked along the river into Pangbourne and back
again. Many then went into Beale Park to enjoy the rest of the day. |
|
The Walk in the Park was the walk designed for
the members in wheelchairs and those with young families. Altogether
82 people took part and went on to collect their certificates and a
goody bag, donated by Steve Gale.
Of course, the purpose of the walks is to raise
money and already we have received £14,000 and money is still coming
in. There is a wonderful prize of the 32" Bravia Flat Screen TV
donated by Sony UK, for the person that raises the most
sponsorship.
Any walker who wants to take part in this
competition, will need to have all their sponsorship in by December
7th. |
MS Challenge
|
The MS Challenge is an event
organised by the MS Therapy Centres around the UK.
On Saturday, June 7th,
Petula Bollon was taken over a gruelling course in Snowdonia by a
team of volunteers from Vodafone. Her wheelchair was
strapped to a frame so that the team could carry her through flowing
rivers, peat bogs and up and down the sides of mountains. She had
the time of her life and told her story on Radio Oxford
at 2pm on 31st July. Petula
raised over £1,000 in sponsorship and the Vodafone team about
£1,500. This will be matched by a donation from Vodafone, so the
total will be over £4,000 - a great achievement. Many thanks to all
who carried, helped and sponsored. |
