    2010 Reading Half Marathon

We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the Official Local Charities for the Reading Half Marathon for 2010. We were given 25 free entries for our runners and also provided 45 volunteers to marshal the roads around the Madejski Stadium.

Altogether we had 40 runners including our Patron, Martin Salter MP, who took part in the Corporate Relay Race at ‘Martins Midnight Runners’. Our youngest supporter was, Georgia Stevens, aged 6 years old, who ran the Green Park Challenge for her grandmother who has MS.

So far our runners have raised over £8,500 and there is more to come, also the organisers of the Reading Half Marathon will be making a substantial donation to the charity for providing the team of marshals.

We thank you all for supporting Berkshire MS Therapy Centre and making the Reading Half Marathon our biggest fundraising event of 2010.

    2009 Walking for Miles

The Walking for MileS Event on October 4th proved to be a great success thanks to the 200 people taking part and an army of willing volunteers marshalling the course.

Our thanks must go to Pangbourne College for letting the MS Therapy Centre use their grounds and allowing the walk, especially designed for wheelchair users, to go through the woodland and into the Falkland Islands Memorial Chapel.

To date we have received over £14,000 in sponsorship and the money continues to come in.

Elvira Botta won the prize for the fastest walker which is bed and breakfast in the Elephant Hotel in Pangbourne. She took only 3 hours and 47 minutes to complete the 13 mile course.
Also taking part was Robert Townley-Taylor, a member of the parachute regiment who ran the Half Marathon course with a 50Ib Bergen on his back.

The Goody Bags being handed out to everyone returning from their individual challenge, were once again provided by friend of the Centre, Mr Steve Gale who joined us on the day with many of his family and friends.

Everyone who raised money for the Centre through sponsorship is very welcome to drop in at any time to see at first hand how the money they raised is spent, just call 01189016000 and ask to speak to Jackie. If you are not able to call in, please send back your sponsor forms to Bradbury House, 23a August End, Brock Gardens, Reading RG30 2JP with a cheque made payable to the BMSTC

    Mayor's Charity of the Year

Among the entrant was Peter Beard who completed his term as the Mayor of Reading in May. Peter took part in the Seven Mile Stroll and then presented a cheque to the value of £2,379 to Jackie Malcolm, the Centre’s fundraiser. This money had been raised during Peter’s term in office when he chose the Berkshire MS Therapy Centre as one of his two chosen Mayoral Charities.
